Updates from Jaime and Steven tonight!

A message from Jaime:

“Steven joined me this morning at Kindred, which was exciting! He was only an hour later than expected, which is a miracle if you know a thing or two about hospitals. We like our new double room, but are still getting settled in.

The big excitement for me today, was that I got to talk to jockey Mike Smith. He is a very nice and gracious man. During our half hour phone conversation he invited me to be his guest at the Breeders’ Cup in November. Thank you to all of you who worked to make this conversation a reality. I really appreciate it! A big thank you to everyone who has commented on Facebook, sent us cards, gifts, flowers, and love. We’re so appreciative of everyone’s support.”

A message from Steven:

“I’m finally relieved from all of my staples and still have 166 stitches left (not that I’m counting). I’m very excited to be near Jaimo again, and happy that my dad can be nearby. My physical therapy is going very well, and I will be getting my glasses very soon! I miss all of you and really appreciate all of the love and support that you have sent our way.”

Jer is back at school now, and he has a great support system in place at EWU.  He is planning on coming home in a couple of weeks to visit his sisters and brother in law.  Please continue to let Jer know how much you love him, and that you are thinking of him and praying for him.

At Jessie’s team meeting yesterday, one of her doctors suggested that we put up a big piece of butcher paper in her room and that all of her therapists write down their goals for her so that she can see them everyday.  As she accomplishes each goal it will be crossed off and new ones will be added.  This way Jessie can look back and have a tangible reminder of the progress that she is making in this journey.  This is something that she was really excited about, and today the board of goals was put up in her room.  The walls of Jessie’s room are filling up!  She has all of the beautiful cards that are being sent to her, as well as pictures, and banners, and now the board of goals covering almost every square inch of her room.  It’s a beautiful reminded of how much she is truly surrounded in love.  Jaime and Steven’s new room at the nursing facility is pretty tiny, so if you were thinking about sending flowers or balloons or something large – a card or something smaller like that might be a better idea 🙂 They are so thankful for all of the generous and thoughtful messages and gifts that are being sent their way.  Everyone is, truly.  The generosity of this community is astounding.  Thank you so much.  We are blessed.

We want to pass along a huge thank you to the wonderful people at Emerald Downs who helped coordinate Jaime’s phone call with Mike Smith this afternoon. Both Emerald Downs and Mike Smith have been so incredibly gracious and generous and it really means so much to Jaime.  People all over the country are reaching out to us offering different ways that they can help.  We have such a sense that we are in the midst of a story that is far greater than any of us know right now.  These four beautiful lives are going to be used to do a lot of good in this world.  Thanks again to all of you for surrounding them during this time.  They feel your love, and they are so appreciative!

  2. What wonderful news!! These kids have come so far it’s absolutely incredible! The goal board is a great idea! She needs to see her progress, even more than hearing about it. So happy to hear Jeremy is back at school! Sweet boy who has watched his family go through so much. Praying for you and your sisters!

  6. Jessie, you would be so proud of your 6th grade class. They continue to walk through the halls at Frank Love with their heads held high and their voices silent. Some kids would take advantage of you not being there but with your wonderful foundation this class is awesome. I try to point it out to my preschool classes whenever I can.-Karlie Kirkham
